This year’s ride is very different from any of the previous trails in the SAC. For starters, you will note that there is little elevation change so those big climbing gears might not get much use. But to be sure, this is no road race. The start and finish will be from the Beliong Temple complex with a rolling start to get the riders out onto the trails. After that, the trail follows a variety of bunds, local roads, plantation trails, local trails and other access paths so the terrain is varied. There are also a number of river crossings that will need to be negotiated – not all of them with bridges (the crossing will be part of the challenge). There are also a number of other passages that will require your attention such as bridges, walkways and village paths. These are narrow, twisty and will require your full attention. This is Sarawak so rain can change the conditions from dust to mud in a short period of time. Prepare for both. The route will pass through several villages, so riders will also have to be on the look out for local traffic. In this case, motorbikes, pedestrians and other bikes. Be alert and give way if required. To complete the mountain bike section will require two loops of the track. There will be check points and water stops along the trail. You will be required to show proof of passing through the control points. Failure to do so will result in a DNF (did not finish).

Trail Run Section

  1. Duathlon Category A, B, C – Stage 2 of Duathlon (12km)
  2. Trail Run Category D – 12km

The start and finish for the trail run will be from the Beliong Temple complex. As with the MTB, this year’s trail differs from previous SAC in that there is little elevation change. However, there is still a variety of challenging terrain that will require the runner’s attention. The running trail initially follows the same route as the MTB before heading off on local roads, plantation trails, local village trails and other access routes (some newly created). There will also be a number of river crossings that will need to be negotiated – not all of them with bridges. Runners in all categories will also have to complete some special local tasks as part of the challenge. The nature of these tasks will be divulged at the race start line. There will be check points and water stops along the trail. You will be required to show proof of passing through the control points. Failure to do so will result in a DNF (did not finish).
